The Press Office of the CC of the KKE issued the following statement on the Trump – Putin call:

“The fanfare surrounding a ceasefire in the three-year imperialist war in Ukraine between the US–NATO–EU and capitalist Russia, cannot hide the real facts and the painful reality of the continuation of the war that is tormenting the peoples of Ukraine and Russia, or the dangers for other peoples.

The partial, fragile ceasefire agreement on energy infrastructure between Trump and Putin, in the context of the US–Russia bargaining, does not erase the real cause of the imperialist war, i.e. the imperialist competition for control of markets and natural resources.

The limited ceasefire agreement is part of the negotiation process for the division of territories, energy and other infrastructure and mineral wealth, on the basis of the faits accomplis created by the invasion of the Russian army and the occupation of Ukrainian territory.

The imperialist peace, the related peace settlements and compromises that bear the stamp of the aspirations of the bourgeoisie, the imperialist alliances and the imperialist war are the two sides of the same coin. The presentation of Trump as a peacemaker is a provocation to the peoples who have experienced and are experiencing the US imperialism.

Both the USA–EU–Ukraine and Russia, while talking about ‘ceasefire’, are intensifying the war preparations. At the same time, the Greek government, with the support of the NATO parties, is involved in the imperialist war, supporting the war economy of the EU and the gigantic so-called ‘European defence’ project worth €800 billion, at the expense of our people and other peoples.

The defence of the life and interests of the peoples requires the development of the independent struggle for the elimination of the causes of the imperialist wars, for the overthrow of the capitalist barbarity.”
