STATEMENT BY THE INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS SECTION OF THE CC OF THE KKE

ON THE ATTEMPT OF THE KYRGYZTAN PARLIAMENT TO RESTORE THE SS LEGION THAT BATTLED AGAINST ELAS

The KKE condemns the attempt to restore a legion of the SS which fought against ELAS with the bill that was tabled in the Kyrgyzstan Parliament.

The effort, launched last October in the Kyrgyz parliament, by 15 parliament members, representing 6 parties in the country's parliament, to restore those persecuted by the Soviet authorities, including even the "fighters" of the Nazi "Turkestan Legion" is totally unacceptable. This legion, like other sections of the Nazi SS, is responsible for war crimes against the peoples during World War II and allegedly fought against ELAS in Greece.

It is a shameful act, following similar moves by other bourgeois regimes, such as the monument erected by the Kazakh authorities in 2017 in the city of Kyzylorda in tribute to the mastermind and founder of this legion, the Kazakh nationalist Mustafa Shokay.

The KKE denounces these actions, which go hand in hand with the attempts to justify fascism, the revision of the results of World War II, written with the blood of the Red Army, the Soviet people, the rebel movements. This is also supported by the EU, through the anti-communist campaign it is engaged in.

The KKE demands the immediate withdrawal of the bill, and expresses its support for political and social organizations in Kyrgyzstan and the rest of Central Asia opposed to the Turkestan SS Legion restoration operation.
